Over recent years, the power and impact of taking part in international collaboration projects rooted in dance has become more evident for us and especially for artists and participants we engage with across our programmes.
Today (Thursday 22 October) as part of our Cultural Bridge Project, a partnership between ourselves and Germany’s Perform[d]ance, we welcome young people from the North East of Germany to collaborate with young people from TIN Arts on a digital dance film called ‘North East Moves.’
Initiated through a series of exchanges, now in person the young people are person exchanges, young dancers are not only creating a new digital dance work but also building bridges of understanding and creativity.
From virtual rehearsals to in-person residencies, we hope these experiences are helping young people to:
- Expand their global awareness by engaging with peers from different cultural backgrounds.
-
Explore new creative languages through hybrid and digital collaboration.
- Gain greater confidence and skills in inclusive and accessible dance practices.
-
Explore identity and diversity in a supportive, international setting. Finally, by grounding the final performance in our shared post-industrial landscapes of North East Germany and England, the work aims to reflect a deep connection to our shared sense of place and heritage. We hope initiatives like this do more than produce great art — together we can shape resilient, culturally aware young citizens ready to thrive in a diverse and interconnected world.
